Budi Daya Kroto Information

You either eat what your parents put in front of you or go hungry. When my parents and I were in Champasak province and had to decide on what to eat for dinner it was quite a struggle. My father would look for fish or ant eggs while my mother would lean toward meat or chicken. I on the other hand was searching for fruits and veggies and good desserts for a meal. To make my father happy we had to go along with his favorite Lao food. It’s not everyday that he can get his hands on ant eggs or various type of fishes. There was a period of one week that I thought my face was going to turn into ant eggs because we ate ant eggs soup for almost everyday. The difficult part about grocery shopping is hunting for ang eggs or the right kind of fish for my father.

The first time we found ant eggs was when we were at the Lao-Thai border market. There were only a couple of ladies selling ant eggs on the street of the Lao side. The price was in Thai Bahth and quite hight. My aunt did a great job bargaining. Later that evening my uncle made mushrooms and ant eggs soup. I didn’t know you can combine mushrooms and ant eggs together. Of course I didn’t make a fuss at dinner and ate what was put in front of me. I still can’t say whether I love ant eggs soup or hate it. Food is food I guess.
